Since its incorporation in 2001 by 3Com, Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard, Nortel, and Xerox, AGMA have participated at many industry conferences, raising awareness and educating the industry on the serious issues of gray market and counterfeit technology - and the impact on consumers and the high-tech industry as a whole. AGMA has submitted testimony for a Congressional hearing on the economic impact of gray marketing and counterfeiting and has steadily and continuously grown its membership base.

AGMA has the following four goals:

• To educate the industry about the gray market and its impact. AGMA provides the best mitigation practices the industry can employ to reduce the unauthorized flow of products into the gray market and offers valuable resources to our membership to address the issues they face in their distribution model.
• To develop industry best practices to mitigate the counterfeiting of branded technology products to reduce the potential harm they cause to customers, authorized distribution partners, and the high-tech industry.
• To provide awareness of service fraud and warranty abuse, its enablers and impacts as well as sharing best practices in mitigating service, warranty, and other support abuse.
• To raise awareness of and provide insights into the challenges associated with protecting IP in a digital format.
